तेषां न कश्चनाहोता
Among them, none is the Hotṛ priest.
यद्वा अतिथिपतिरतिथीन् परिविष्य गृहान् उपोदैत्यवभृथमेव तदुपावैति
Or, when the lord of guests, having served the guests, enters the house, he indeed approaches the Avabhṛtha.
यत्सभागयति दक्षिणाः सभागयति यदनुतिष्ठत उदवस्यत्येव तत्
Whatever he apportions, he apportions the gifts; whatever he performs, he indeed accomplishes.
स उपहूतः पृथिव्यां भक्षयत्युपहूतस्तस्मिन् यत्पृथिव्यां विश्वरूपम्
He, when invited, eats upon the earth; when invited, all forms that are upon the earth are in him.
स उपहूतोऽन्तरिक्षे भक्षयत्युपहूतस्तस्मिन् यद्दिवि विश्वरूपम्
He, when invited, eats in the atmosphere; when invited, all forms that are in the sky are in him.
स उपहूतो दिवि भक्षयत्युपहूतस्तस्मिन् यद्दिवि विश्वरूपम्
He, when invited, eats in heaven; when invited, all forms that are in heaven are in him.
स उपहूतो देवेषु भक्षयत्युपहूतस्तस्मिन् यद्दिवि विश्वरूपम्
He, when invited, eats among the gods; when invited, all forms that are in heaven are in him.
स उपहूतो लोकेषु भक्षयत्युपहूतस्तस्मिन् यद्दिवि विश्वरूपम्
He, when invited, eats among the worlds; when invited, all forms that are in heaven are in him.
स उपहूत उपहूतः
He is invited, invited.
आप्नोतीमं लोकमाप्नोत्यमुम्
He attains this world, he attains that world.
ज्योतिष्मतो लोकान् जयति य एवं वेद
He conquers the worlds full of light, who knows thus.
यजमानब्राह्मणं वा एतदतिथिपतिः कुरुते यदाहार्याणि प्रेक्षत इदं भूया३ इदा३ इति
The lord of guests makes the sacrificer or the Brahmin as himself when he looks upon the food, thinking, 'May this be more, may this be more.'
यदाह भूय उद्धरेति प्राणमेव तेन वर्षीयांसं कुरुते
When he says, 'Bring more,' by that he makes the breath greater.
उप हरति हवींष्या सादयति
He brings the offerings, he causes them to settle.
तेषामासन्नानामतिथिरात्मन् जुहोति
Of those who are nearby, the guest offers himself.
स्रुचा हस्तेन प्राणे यूपे स्रुक्कारेण वषट्कारेण
With the ladle in hand, in the breath, at the sacrificial post, with the spoon, with the vaṣaṭ-call.
एते वै प्रियाश्चाप्रियाश्च र्त्विजः स्वर्गं लोकं गमयन्ति यदतिथयः
These, both dear and not dear, the officiants, lead to the heavenly world, namely the guests.
स य एवं विद्वान् न द्विषन्न् अश्नीयान् न द्विषतोऽन्नमश्नीयान् न मीमांसितस्य न मीमांसमानस्य
He who knows thus should not eat in hatred, should not eat the food of one who hates, nor of one who is not examined, nor of one who is examining.
सर्वो वा एष जग्धपाप्मा यस्यान्नमश्नन्ति
All the sin of eating is upon him whose food they eat.
सर्वो वा एसोऽजग्धपाप्मा यस्यान्नं नाश्नन्ति
All the sin of eating is absent from him whose food they do not eat.
सर्वदा वा एष युक्तग्रावार्द्रपवित्रो वितताध्वर आहृतयज्ञक्रतुर्य उपहरति
At all times, he with the fitted pressing stone, the moist strainer, the extended sacrifice, brings forth the offering.
प्राजापत्यो वा एतस्य यज्ञो विततो य उपहरति
The sacrifice of Prajapati is extended for him who brings forth the offering.
प्रजापतेर्वा एष विक्रमान् अनुविक्रमते य उपहरति
He follows the steps of Prajapati, who brings forth the offering.
योऽतिथीनां स आहवनीयो यो वेश्मनि स गार्हपत्यो यस्मिन् पचन्ति स दक्षिणाग्निः
He who is among the guests is the āhavanīya fire; he who is in the house is the gārhapatya; in whom they cook is the dakṣiṇāgni.
इष्टं च वा एष पूर्तं च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both the performed and the fulfilled, who eats before the guest eats.
पयश्च वा एष रसं च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both milk and essence, who eats before the guest eats.
ऊर्जां च वा एष स्फातिं च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both nourishment and growth, who eats before the guest eats.
प्रजां वा एष पशूंश्च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both offspring and cattle, who eats before the guest eats.
कीर्तिं वा एष यशश्च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both fame and renown, who eats before the guest eats.
श्रियं वा एष संविदं च गृहाणामश्नाति यः पूर्वोऽतिथेरश्नाति
He receives both prosperity and understanding, who eats before the guest eats.
