शुनं सुफाला वि तुदन्तु भूमिं शुनं कीनाशा अनु यन्तु वाहान् । शुनासीरा हविषा तोशमाना सुपिप्पला ओषधीः कर्तमस्मै
May the ploughers strike the earth with a good furrow, may the laborers follow the teams well. May the plough and the yoke, pleased with the offering, and the fruitful plants, make this for us.
शुनं वाहाः शुनं नरः शुनं कृषतु लाङ्गलम् । शुनं वरत्रा बध्यन्तां शुनमष्ट्रामुदिङ्गय
May the teams prosper, may the men prosper, may the plough prosper. May the straps be well tied, may the goad be raised up.
शुनासीरेह स्म मे जुषेथाम् । यद्दिवि चक्रथुः पयस्तेनेमामुप सिञ्चतम्
O plough and yoke, may you be pleased with me here. Whatever milk you have made in the sky, pour it down upon this field.
सीते वन्दामहे त्वार्वाची सुभगे भव । यथा नः सुमना असो यथा नः सुफला भुवः
O Sītā, we honor you; be gracious and favorable. As you are kind to us, so may you be fruitful for us.
घृतेन सीता मधुना समक्ता विश्वैर्देवैरनुमता मरुद्भिः । सा नः सीते पयसाभ्याववृत्स्वोर्जस्वती घृतवत्पिन्वमाना
Sītā, anointed with ghee and honey, approved by all the gods and the Maruts, may you, O Sītā, pour forth milk for us, abounding in strength, rich in ghee, ever increasing.
इमां खनाम्योषधिं वीरुधां बलवत्तमाम् । यया सपत्नीं बाधते यया संविन्दते पतिम्
I dig up this herb, the strongest of all plants, by which one drives away a rival wife, by which one finds a husband.
उत्तानपर्णे सुभगे देवजूते सहस्वति । सपत्नीं मे परा णुद पतिं मे केवलं कृधि
O Uttānaparṇī, fortunate one, honored by the gods, full of power, drive away my co-wife; make my husband belong to me alone.
नहि ते नाम जग्राह नो अस्मिन् रमसे पतौ । परामेव परावतं सपत्नीं गमयामसि
Your name has not been taken, nor do you delight in this husband; let us send my co-wife far away, to a distant place.
उत्तराहमुत्तर उत्तरेदुत्तराभ्यः । अधः सपत्नी या ममाधरा साधराभ्यः
I am the superior, the most exalted among the exalted; my co-wife is below, the lowest among the low.
अहमस्मि सहमानाथो त्वमसि सासहिः । उभे सहस्वती भूत्वा सपत्नीं मे सहावहै
I am the victorious one, and you are also victorious; together, being powerful, let us overcome my co-wife.
अभि तेऽधां सहमानामुप तेऽधां सहीयसीम् । मामनु प्र ते मनो वत्सं गौरिव धावतु पथा वारिव धावतु
I approach you, the victorious one; I come to you, the more victorious; let your mind not follow after me, as a cow follows her calf, as water flows along its path.
संशितं म इदं ब्रह्म संशितं वीर्यं बलम् । संशितं क्षत्रमजरमस्तु जिष्णुर्येषामस्मि पुरोहितः
This prayer of mine is sharpened, sharpened is my strength and power; sharpened is my unaging royal might—may I, their priest, be victorious.
समहमेषां राष्ट्रं स्यामि समोजो वीर्यं बलम् । वृश्चामि शत्रूणां बाहून् अनेन हविषा अहम्
May I be equal in sovereignty among them, equal in strength and power; with this offering I cut off the arms of my enemies.
नीचैः पद्यन्तामधरे भवन्तु ये नः सूरिं मघवानं पृतन्यान् । क्षिणामि ब्रह्मणामित्रान् उन् नयामि स्वान् अहम्
Let those who oppose our generous lord walk low and be beneath us; with prayer I diminish my foes and lead my own people upward.
तीक्ष्णीयांसः परशोरग्नेस्तीक्ष्णतरा उत । इन्द्रस्य वज्रात्तीक्ष्णीयांसो येषामस्मि पुरोहितः
Sharper than the axe, sharper even than fire, sharper than Indra's thunderbolt are those for whom I am the priest.
एषामहमायुधा सं स्याम्येषां राष्ट्रं सुवीरं वर्धयामि । एषां क्षत्रमजरमस्तु जिष्ण्वेषां चित्तं विश्वेऽवन्तु देवाः
May I be united with their weapons; may I increase their heroic kingdom; may their royal power be ageless and victorious; may all the gods protect their minds.
उद्धर्षन्तां मघवन् वाजिनान्युद्वीराणां जयतामेतु घोषः । पृथग्घोषा उलुलयः केतुमन्त उदीरताम् । देवा इन्द्रज्येष्ठा मरुतो यन्तु सेनया
Let the neighing of the victorious horses of Maghavan rise up; let the cries of the victorious resound separately, with banners raised; may the gods, with Indra at their head, and the Maruts, advance with the army.
प्रेता जयता नर उग्रा वः सन्तु बाहवः । तीक्ष्णेषवोऽबलधन्वनो हतोग्रायुधा अबलान् उग्रबाहवः
Go forth, win, O men; may your arms be mighty; let your arrows be sharp, your bows strong, your weapons deadly; let your strong arms strike down the weak.
अवसृष्टा परा पत शरव्ये ब्रह्मसंशिते । जय अमित्रान् प्र पद्यस्व जह्येषां वरंवरं मामीषां मोचि कश्चन
Released, fly far away, O arrow, sharpened by prayer; conquer the enemies, advance forward, strike down their best, and let none of them harm me.
अयं ते योनिर्ऋत्वियो यतो जातो अरोचथाः । तं जानन्न् अग्न आ रोहाधा नो वर्धय रयिम्
This is your origin, O priest, from which you were born and shone; knowing that, O Agni, ascend and increase our wealth.
अग्ने अच्छा वदेह नः प्रत्यङ्नः सुमना भव । प्र णो यच्छ विशां पते धनदा असि नस्त्वम्
Agni, come to us, speak for us, be kindly disposed toward us; grant us favor, lord of the people, for you are our giver of wealth.
प्र णो यच्छत्वर्यमा प्र भगः प्र बृहस्पतिः । प्र देवीः प्रोत सूनृता रयिं देवी दधातु मे
Let Aryaman grant us favor, let Bhaga, let Bṛhaspati; let the goddesses, the gracious ones, bestow wealth upon me.
सोमं राजानमवसेऽग्निं गीर्भिर्हवामहे । आदित्यं विष्णुं सूर्यं ब्रह्माणं च बृहस्पतिम्
We call for help upon King Soma, upon Agni with our songs; upon Āditya, Viṣṇu, Sūrya, and upon Bṛhaspati, the priest.
त्वं नो अग्ने अग्निभिर्ब्रह्म यज्ञं वर्धय । त्वं नो देव दातवे रयिं दानाय चोदय
You, Agni, with the other fires, increase our prayer and sacrifice; you, O god, urge on wealth for us, for giving and for receiving.
इन्द्रवायू उभाविह सुहवेह हवामहे । यथा नः सर्व इज्जनः संगत्यां सुमना असद्दानकामश्च नो भुवत्
Here we invoke you both, Indra and Vāyu, who are easily called; may all people be well-disposed toward us in assembly, and may the giver of gifts and the seeker of gifts both be favorable to us.
अर्यमणं बृहस्पतिमिन्द्रं दानाय चोदय । वातं विष्णुं सरस्वतीं सवितारं च वाजिनम्
Urge Aryaman, Bṛhaspati, and Indra to give; and also Vāta, Viṣṇu, Sarasvatī, and Savitṛ, the bestower of strength.
वाजस्य नु प्रसवे सं बभूविमेमा च विश्वा भुवनानि अन्तः । उतादित्सन्तं दापयतु प्रजानन् रयिं च नः सर्ववीरं नि यच्छ
At the outpouring of strength, may we unite, and may all these worlds be within us; let the wise one make the generous giver give, and grant us wealth abounding in heroes.
दुह्रां मे पञ्च प्रदिशो दुह्रामुर्वीर्यथाबलम् । प्रापेयं सर्वा आकूतीर्मनसा हृदयेन च
May the five regions yield for me, may the wide earth yield according to strength; may I attain all my desires with mind and heart.
गोसनिं वाचमुदेयं वर्चसा माभ्युदिहि । आ रुन्धां सर्वतो वायुस्त्वष्टा पोषं दधातु मे
May I utter speech rich as a herd of cows, may you grant me brilliance; let Vāyu restrain from all sides, and may Tvaṣṭṛ bestow prosperity upon me.
ये अग्नयो अप्स्वन्तर्ये वृत्रे ये पुरुषे ये अश्मसु । य आविवेशोषधीर्यो वनस्पतींस्तेभ्यो अग्निभ्यो हुतमस्त्वेतत्
Those fires that are in the waters, those in obstacles, those in people, those in stones, those that have entered plants and trees—to all those fires, this offering is made.
