सर्वैः पराक्रमैर्वीर वध्यः शत्रुरमित्रहन्। न शत्रुरवमन्तव्यो दुर्बलोऽपि बलीयसा। योपिस्यात्पीठगः कश्चित्किं पुनः समरे स्थितः
O hero, with all your might, slay the enemy, destroyer of foes. Never underestimate an enemy, even if weak, when you are strong; for even one who seems insignificant may become formidable, especially when standing in battle.
स त्वं पुरुषशार्दूल सर्वयत्नैरिमं प्रभो। जहि वृष्णिकुलश्रेष्ठ मा त्वां कालोऽत्यगात्पुनः
Therefore, O tiger among men, exert every effort, O lord, and kill this one, O best of the Vrishni clan; let not time pass you by again.
जितवाञ्जामदग्न्यं यः कोटिवर्षगणान्बहून्। स एष नान्यैर्वध्यो हि त्वामृते नास्ति कश्चन
He who has conquered Jamadagni's son and countless hosts for many ages—this one cannot be slain by any other; there is no one else but you.
नैष मार्दवसाध्यो वै मतो नापि सखा तव। येन त्वं योधितो वीर द्वारका चावमर्दिता
He cannot be subdued by gentleness, nor is he your friend; O hero, he has fought you and humiliated Dwaraka.
एवमादि तु कौन्तेय श्रुत्वाऽहं सारथेर्वचः। तत्वमेतदिति ज्ञात्वा युद्धे मतिमधारयम्
Having heard such words from the charioteer, O son of Kunti, and knowing their truth, I resolved my mind for battle.
वधाय साल्वराजस्य सौभस्य च निपातने। दारुकं चाब्रुवं वीर मुहूर्तं स्थीयतामिति
For the destruction of the king of Salva and the downfall of Saubha, I told Daruka, 'O hero, halt for a moment.'
ततोऽप्रतिहतं दिव्यमभोद्यमतिवीर्यवत्। आग्नेयमस्त्रं दयितं सर्वसाहं महाप्रभम्। योजयं तत्रधनुषा दानवान्तकरं रणे
Then, with unstoppable force, I prepared the divine, beloved, all-conquering, splendid Agneyastra, fitting it to my bow, the weapon that destroys demons in battle.
यक्षाणां राक्षसानां च दानवानां च संयुगे। राज्ञां च प्रतिलोमानां भस्मान्तकरणं महत्
In battle against Yakshas, Rakshasas, Danavas, and hostile kings, it brings utter destruction, reducing them to ashes.
क्षुरान्तममलं चक्रं कालान्तकयमोपमम्। अनुमन्त्र्याहमतुलं द्विषतां विनिबर्हणम्
I invoked the pure, razor-edged discus, resembling the end of time, unmatched, annihilating enemies.
जहि सौभं स्ववीर्येण ये चात्र रिपवो मम। इत्युक्त्वा भुजवीर्येण तस्मै प्राहिणवं रुषा
Slay Saubha by your own strength, and those who are my enemies here; having said this, I sent it forth with the power of my arms, in anger.
रूपं सुदर्शनस्यासीदाकाशे पततस्तदा। द्वितीयस्येव सूर्यस् युगान्ते प्रतपिष्यतः
Sudarsana's form appeared in the sky as it flew, shining like a second sun at the end of an age.
तत्समासाद्य नगरं सौभं व्यपगतत्विषम्। मध्येन पाटयामास क्रकचो दार्विवोच्छ्रितम्
Striking the city of Saubha, whose brilliance had faded, it split it through the middle like a saw splitting a tall tree.
द्विधा कृतं ततः सौभं सुदर्शनबलाद्धतम्। महेश्वरशरोद्धूतं पपात त्रिपुरं यथा
Saubha was cleaved in two by Sudarsana's power, and, struck by Maheshvara's arrow, it fell like Tripura.
तस्मिन्निपतिते सौभे चक्रमागात्करं मम। पुनश्चादाय वेगेन साल्वायेत्यहमब्रुवम्
When Saubha had fallen, the discus returned to my hand; seizing it swiftly, I said, 'For Salva!'
ततः साल्वं गदां गुर्वीमाविध्यन्ते महाहवे। द्विधा चकार सहसा प्रजज्वाल च तेजसा
Then, in the great battle, I struck Salva with a heavy mace, splitting him in two at once, and it blazed with energy.
तस्मिन्विनिहते वीरे दानवास्त्रस्तचेतसः। हाहाभूता दिशो जग्मुरर्दिता मम सायकैः
When that hero was slain, the demons, their hearts terrified, cried out and fled in all directions, wounded by my arrows.
ततोऽहंसमवस्थाप्यरथं सौभसमीपतः। शङ्खं प्रध्माप्य हर्षेण सुहृदः पर्यहर्षयम्
Then, placing my chariot near Saubha, I blew the conch in joy, delighting my friends.
तन्मेरुशिखराकारं विध्वस्ताट्टालगोपुरम्। दह्यमानमभिप्रेक्ष्य स्त्रियस्ताः संप्रदुद्रुवुः
Seeing Saubha, shaped like the peak of Meru, its towers and gates destroyed, burning, the women fled in terror.
एवं निहत्य समरे सौभं साल्वं निपात्य च। आनर्तात्पुनरागम्य सुहृदां प्रीतिमावहम्
Having slain Saubha and defeated Salva in battle, I returned from Anarta, bringing joy to my friends.
तदेतत्कारणं राजन्नागमं नागसाह्वयम्। यद्यागां परवीरघ्न न हि जीवेत्सुयोधनः
This, O King, is the reason for my coming and the summoning of the Nagas; if you perform the sacrifice, the destroyer of enemy heroes, Suyodhana, will not survive.
मय्यागतेऽथवा वीर द्यूतं न भविता तथा। अद्याहं किं करिष्यामि भिन्नसेतुरिवोदकम्
If I arrive, O hero, the dice game will not occur as before; today, what shall I do, like water separated from a broken dam?
एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुः कौरवं पुरुषोत्तमः। आमन्त्र्य प्रययौ श्रीमान्पाण्डवान्मधुसूदनः
Having spoken thus, the mighty-armed, illustrious Madhusudana, the foremost among men, addressed the Kaurava and departed for the Pandavas.
अभिवाद्य महाबाहुर्धर्मराजं युधिष्ठिरम्। राज्ञा मूर्धन्युपाघ्रातो भीमेन च महाभुजः
The mighty-armed Krishna greeted King Yudhishthira, who was honored by the king and embraced by Bhima, the great-armed.
परिष्वक्तश्चार्जुनेन यमाभ्यां चाभिवादितः। संमानितश्च धौम्येन द्रौपद्या चार्चितोश्रुभिः
He was embraced by Arjuna, greeted by the twins, honored by Dhaumya, and worshipped by Draupadi with tears.
सुभद्रामभिमन्युं च रथमारोप्य काञ्चनम्। आरुरोह रथं कृष्णः पाण्डवैरभिपूजितः
Krishna, honored by the Pandavas, placed Subhadra and Abhimanyu upon the golden chariot and ascended it himself.
शैब्यसुग्रीवयुक्तेन रथेनादित्यवर्चसा। द्वारकां प्रययौ कृष्णः समाश्वास्य युधिष्ठिरम्
Krishna, after consoling Yudhishthira, departed for Dwaraka on a chariot shining like the sun, yoked with Shaibya and Sugriva.
ततः प्रयते दाशार्हे धृष्टद्युम्नोपि पार्षतः। द्रौपदेयानुपादाय प्रययौ स्वपुरं तदा
Then, the resolute Dasharha and Dhrishtadyumna, the son of Prishata, took the sons of Draupadi and departed for their own city.
धृष्टकेतुः स्वसारं च समादायाथ चेदिराट्। जगाम पाण्डवान्दृष्ट्वा रम्यां शुक्तिमतीं पुरीम्
Dhrishtaketu, the king of Chedi, taking his sister, went to the Pandavas after seeing the delightful city of Shuktimati.
केकयाश्चाप्यनुज्ञाताः कौन्तेयेनामितौजसा। आमन्त्र्य पाण्डवान्सर्वान्प्रययुस्तेऽपि भारत
The Kekayas, having been permitted by the mighty son of Kunti, took leave of all the Pandavas and departed, O Bharata.
ब्राह्मणाश्च विशश्चैव तथाविषयवासिनः। विसृज्यमानाः सुभृशं न त्यजन्ति स्म पाण्डवान्
The Brahmanas, the people, and the residents of the region, though dismissed, did not abandon the Pandavas, so deeply attached were they.
