सा वेश्या तु शुचाविष्टा तस्याः शृंगारमुत्तमम् संहृत्य मायया धूर्ता देशं वाह्लीकमाययौ
That courtesan, seized by remorse, cunningly concealed her finest ornaments and, through deceit, departed for the land of Bahlika.
कल्पक्षेत्रमुपागम्य नेत्रसिंहसमुद्भवा
Arriving at the sacred region of Kalpa, she was born from Netra Simha.
कृष्णांशं वचनं प्राह गच्छगच्छ महाबल
She spoke to Krishnaamsha, saying: 'Go, go, O mighty one.'
गुटिकेयं मया वीर रचिता तां मुखेन च
'O hero, this pill has been prepared by me; take it with your mouth.'
इति श्रुत्वा तथा कृत्वा कृष्णांशस्सर्वमोहनः
Hearing this and doing accordingly, Krishnaamsha, the enchanter of all, complied.
सा तु वेश्या च तं वीरं दृष्ट्वा कन्दर्पकारिणम्
That courtesan, seeing the hero who was the agent of desire,
तदा सा निष्फलीभूय रुरोद करुणं बहु
Then, having become unsuccessful, she wept profusely in sorrow.
गृहीत्वा सर्वशृंगारं वचनं प्राह निर्भयः 3.3.28.
Having gathered all her ornaments, he spoke words without fear.
साह मे सहरो नाम भ्राता प्राणसमप्रियः
'I have a brother named Saharo, dear to me as life itself.'
अतो रौमि महाभाग संप्राप्ता शरणं त्वयि
'Therefore, O greatly fortunate one, I have come to you for refuge.'
तस्मै प्रदर्शयामास निजकार्यपरायणा
To him, she revealed her intentions, being devoted to her own purpose.
दयालुस्स च कृष्णांशस्तामाह करुणं वचः
Krishnaamsha, compassionate, spoke to her gentle words.
साह वीर तवास्ये तु संस्थिता गुटिका शुभा
'O hero, the auspicious pill is indeed in your mouth.'
इत्युक्तस्तु तया वीरो ददौ तस्यै च तद्वसु पंजरस्थमुपादाय कृष्णांशं कामविह्वला
Thus addressed by her, the hero gave her that wealth, and, taking Krishnaamsha who was overcome by desire, placed him in a cage.
बाह्लीकदेशमागम्य सारट्टनगरं शुभम्
Arriving in the land of Bahlika, at the auspicious city of Saratta,
निशीथे समनुप्राप्ते कृत्वा तं नररूपिणम्
When midnight had come, she transformed him into a man.
दृष्ट्वा तां स तथाभूतां कृष्णांशो जगदंबिकाम्
Seeing her in that form, Krishnaamsha recognized her as Jagadambika.
तदा सा स्वेडिनी भूत्वा त्यक्त्वा कृष्णांशमुत्तमम् 3.3.28.
Then she, becoming sweaty, abandoned the excellent Krishnaamsha.
तदा स्वर्णवती देवी बोधिता विष्णुमायया ददर्श शुकभूतं च कृष्णांशं योगतत्परम्
Then the goddess Svarṇavatī, awakened by Viṣṇu's māyā, saw the portion of Kṛṣṇa, absorbed in yoga, in the form of a parrot.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे वेश्या पुनः कृत्वा शुभं वपुः
At that moment, the courtesan again assumed a beautiful form.
अये प्राणप्रिय स्वामिन्भज मां कामविह्वलाम्
"O beloved lord of my life, accept me who am overwhelmed by desire."
इत्युक्तस्स तु तामाह वचनं शृणु शोभने
Thus addressed, he said to her, "Listen to my words, O beautiful one."
विवाहितां शुभां नारीं यो भजेत ऋतौ न हि अतः परस्त्रिया भोगो ज्ञेयो वै निरयप्रदः
A man who unites with a virtuous, wedded woman only at the proper season does not incur sin; but enjoyment with another's wife is to be known as leading to hell.
इति श्रुत्वा तु सा प्राह विश्वामित्रेण धीमता न कोऽपि नरकं प्राप्तस्तस्मान्मां भज कामिनीम्
Hearing this, she replied, "By the wise Viśvāmitra, no one has ever gone to hell; therefore, enjoy me, who am desirous."
पुनश्चाह स कृष्णांशः कृत्तं पापं तपोबलात्
Again, that portion of Kṛṣṇa said, "Sin has been destroyed by the power of austerity."
अर्द्धांगं पुरुषस्य स्त्री मैथुने च विशेषतः
A woman is considered half the body of a man, especially in sexual union.
ऋचि शब्दश्च पूर्वास्याज्जात ऋग्जस्सनातनः
From the front part of her mouth arose the sound 'ṛc', and thus the eternal Ṛg Veda was born.
तद्धितान्तश्च यश्शब्दः पश्चिमास्याच्च सामजः केवलो वर्णमात्रश्च स शब्दोऽथर्वजः स्मृतः ।। 3.3.28.
From the back part of her mouth came the word 'yaś', which is of Sāma origin; and the pure sound alone is said to be of Atharva origin.
पञ्चमास्याच्च ये जाताः शब्दाः संसारकारिणः
And from the fifth part of her mouth, the words that cause worldly existence were produced.
हित्वा तान्यो हि शुद्धात्मा चतुर्वेदपरायणः
Abandoning those, the pure-souled one, devoted to the four Vedas, remains.
