Seeing his actions, Parvata, overcome by anger,
This one was previously sought by me, but you have married her.
The son whom you have given to him by boon, O Nārada,
Thus addressed by Parvata, Nārada, distressed, spoke:
A maiden, O virtuous one, is common to all beings.
The elders were not served by you; for this you curse me in anger.
Because, without knowing this, you curse me, though I am blameless—
If, by your curse, the son of Saṃjaya should meet his end—
Thus cursing each other, those two divine sages then—
Then, in the seventh month, a son was born to the king.
He remembered his past births, had the form of Kāma, and was the cause of the origin of gold.
Whatever urine, phlegm, or feces he cast upon the earth—
With that, the king performed sacrifices according to rule, with abundant gifts.
He maintained his servants day and night, and nourished his own people and guests.
He protected his son, for whom affection had arisen, surrounded by guards.
Then, some bandits, having heard of that mine of gold,
When that was lost, that which had arisen from the granting of a boon was also lost.
Seeing his son struck down by the bandits, the king was greatly distressed.
Seeing him lamenting, Nārada spoke to Saṃjaya.
Having said this, he recounted the deeds of those of great might.
Hearing the deeds of the great-souled kings,
Nārada also brought back the king’s dead son from the abode of Yama.
Seeing and touching his son, he became completely satisfied in mind.
What wonder is there, O Nārada, with your favor toward me?
After six months, however, that life was entirely ended.
All this has been told to you, which causes remembrance of previous births.
A giver, patient, wealthy, eloquent, and handsome—one should be with such auspicious qualities.
O King, there are four auspicious things, and they are fourfold indeed.
In Mārgaśīrṣa, the first; the second, likewise, in Phālguna.
At the beginning of the dark fortnight of Phālguna, O lord of men, three months (are to be observed).
