ईश्वरो ब्रह्मणः पुत्रः कामचारी मनोजवः
The lord, son of Brahmā, moves at will and with the speed of thought.
पार्श्वे माल्यवतश्चापि पूर्वे ऽपूर्वा तु गण्डिका
And beside Mālyavat, to the east, is the region called Apūrvā Gaṇḍikā.
भद्राश्वास्तत्र विज्ञेया नित्यं मुदितमानसाः
There, the Bhadrāśvas are to be known as always joyful in mind.
तत्र ते पुरुषाः स्वेता महोत्साहा बलान्विताः
There, those men are white, of great enthusiasm, endowed with strength.
चन्द्रप्रभाश्चन्द्रवर्णाः पूर्णचन्द्र निभाननाः
They shine with the radiance of the moon, their color is like the moon, and their faces resemble the full moon.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि तेषामायुरनामयम्
Their lifespan is ten thousand years, free from disease.
दक्षिणेन तु श्वेतस्य नीलस्यैवोत्तरेण च
To the south of Śveta and to the north of Nīla,
रतिप्रधाना विमला जरादौर्गन्ध्यवर्जिताः
There, the women are devoted to pleasure, pure, and free from the decay and foulness of old age.
तत्रापि सुमहान्वृक्षो न्यग्रोधो रोहितो महान्
There also stands a very great tree, a vast nyagrodha (banyan), red in color.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि शतानि दश पञ्च च
Its age is ten times ten thousand years, plus five hundred.
दक्षिणे वै शृङ्गवतः श्वेतस्याप्युत्तरेण च
To the south of Śṛṅgavata and also to the north of Śveta,
महाबलाः सुतेजस्का जायन्ते तत्र मानवाः
There, men of great strength and radiant energy are born.
एकादशसहस्राणि वर्षाणां ते महौजसः
Their mighty lifespan is eleven thousand years.
यस्मिन्वर्षे महावृक्षो लकुचः षड्रसाश्रयः
In that land, there is a great tree, the lakuca, which contains all six tastes.
त्रीणि शृङ्गवतः शृङ्गाण्युच्छ्रितानि महान्ति च
The three peaks of Śṛṅgavata rise up, vast and lofty.
सर्वरत्नमयं चैकं भवनैरुपशोभितम्
One of them is entirely made of all kinds of jewels, adorned with palaces.
कुरवस्तत्र तद्वर्षं पुण्यं सिद्धनिषेवितम्
There, in that sacred land served by the perfected beings, dwell the Kurus.
वस्त्राणि च प्रसूयन्ते फलेष्वाभरणानि च
There, garments grow on the trees, and ornaments as well.
गन्धवर्णरसो पेतं प्रक्षरन्ति मधूत्तमम्
Excellent honey, endowed with fragrance, color, and taste, flows forth.
ये क्षरन्ति सदा क्षीरं षड्रसं ह्यमृतोपमम्
There, milk always flows, possessing six tastes and resembling nectar.
सर्वर्तुसुखसंपन्ना न्निष्पङ्का नीरजा शुभा
Abounding in the comforts of all seasons, free from mud, clear, and auspicious.
शुक्लाभिजनसंपन्नाः सर्वे च स्थिरयौवनाः
All are endowed with noble lineage and wealth, and possess enduring youth.
तेषां ते क्षीरिणां क्षीरं पिबन्ति ह्यमृतो पमम्
They drink the milk of those milch cows, which is indeed like nectar.
समं शीलं च रूपं च प्रियता चैव तत्समा
Their character, appearance, and affection are all equal and alike.
अनामया ह्यशोकाश्च नित्यं सुखनिषेविणः
They are free from disease and sorrow, always devoted to happiness.
जीवन्ति ते महावीर्या न चान्यस्त्रीनिषेविणः
They, possessing great vigor, live long and do not seek other women.
दृष्टः परमतत्त्वज्ञैर्भूयः किं वर्णयामि वः
Perceived by those who know the highest truth—what more shall I describe to you?
चतुर्दशैते मनवः प्रजासर्गे ऽभवन्पुनः
These fourteen Manus again became the progenitors in creation.
एतच्छ्रुतवचस्तेषामब्रवीद्रोमहर्षणः
Having heard this, Romaharṣaṇa spoke these words to them.
इदं तु मध्यमं चित्रं शुभाशुभफलोदयम्
Now, this middle region is diverse, producing both auspicious and inauspicious results.
