ततस्तेजोमयाच्छंभोः स्फुलिंगांशुसमुद्भवाः
From that radiance of Śambhu, sparks and rays arose.
बोधितः सकलैर्देवैः समुत्थाय रमापतिः
Awakened by all the gods, the Lord of Lakṣmī arose.
मया तमसि उद्रेकादकाले शयनं कृतम्
Because of the excess of darkness, I lay down to rest at an improper time.
जगदुत्पत्तिकृत्यानि स्वयं कर्तुं व्यवस्यति । 1.3.1.6.
He resolved to perform himself the acts of creation of the universe.
सर्वदोषप्रशमनं सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदम्
It removes all faults and grants all desired fruits.
चिंतयन्नेवमात्मस्थं ज्योतिर्लिंगं सदाशिवम्
Contemplating thus the jyotirliṅga Sadāśiva, established within himself,
विश्वस्रष्टारमीशानं तुष्टाव दुरितच्छिदम्
He praised Īśāna, the creator of the universe, the destroyer of evil.
अनुगृह्य कटाक्षैस्तं समुत्तिष्ठेत्यभाषत
Bestowing gracious glances upon him, he said, 'Arise.'
नमस्त्रिभुवनेशाय त्रिमूर्तिगुणधारिणे
Salutations to the Lord of the three worlds, the bearer of the qualities of the triple form.
त्वमेव जगतामीशो निजांशैर्देवतामयैः
You alone are the Lord of the worlds, composed of your own portions as the gods.
मां नियुज्य जगद्गुप्तौ परिमोह्य च मायया
Having appointed me to protect the world and deluded me by your Māyā,
किं करोमि जगन्मूर्त्तौ न्यस्तभारोऽस्म्यहं त्वयि
What should I do, when the burden of the world has been placed upon you?
हर शम्भो हरेरार्तिमनुतापं समीक्ष्य सः 1.3.1.6.
O Hara, O Śambhu, seeing the distress and remorse of Hari,
अरुणाचलरूपेण तिष्ठामि वसुधातले
I remain on the earth in the form of Aruṇācala.
पूर्वस्मै विष्णवे तत्र वरो दत्तो मया पुरा तेजोमयमिदं रूपं प्रशांतं लोकरक्षणात्
Long ago, I granted a boon there to the former Viṣṇu: this radiant, tranquil form for the protection of the worlds.
नदीनां निर्झराणां च मेघमुक्तांभसामपि
To the rivers, waterfalls, and even the waters released from clouds,
अंधानां दृष्टिलाभेन पंगूनां पादसंचरैः
To the blind, by granting sight; to the lame, by enabling movement of their feet,
सर्वसिद्धिप्रदानेन सर्वव्याधिविमोचनैः
By granting all accomplishments and freeing from every disease,
इत्युक्तांतर्दधे शम्भुर्हरिश्चैवारुणाचलम्
Having spoken thus, Śambhu disappeared, and Hari also vanished into Aruṇācala.
तमद्रिं परितो दृष्ट्वा सुरान्काननसंश्रयान् वेदान्सांगोपनिषदान्समंतान्मूर्तिधारिणः
Seeing that mountain surrounded by gods dwelling in the forest, and the Vedas with their limbs and Upaniṣads embodied all around,
ससर्ज दिव्यरूपाणां शतमप्सरसां कुलम्
He created a hundred divine forms—a lineage of Apsarases.
स्नात्वा ब्रह्मसरस्यस्मिन्विष्णुः कमललोचनः 1.3.1.6.
Viṣṇu, lotus-eyed, after bathing in this Brahma-lake,
अपापः सर्वलोकानामाधिपत्यं च लब्धवान्
Became sinless and attained lordship over all the worlds.
भास्करस्तेजसां राशिरसुरैरपि पीडितः
Bhāskara, the host of radiance, was afflicted even by the Asuras.
निमज्ज्य विमले तीर्थे पावने ब्रह्मनिर्मिते
Immersing himself in the pure, sacred ford created by Brahmā,
अशेषदैत्यविजयं लब्ध्वा मेरुप्रदक्षिणम्
Having obtained victory over all the Daityas, he circumambulated Meru.
दक्षशापानलाक्रांतस्सोमः शिववचोबलात्
Soma, afflicted by the fire of Dakṣa’s curse, was restored by the power of Śiva’s words.
अग्निर्ब्रह्मर्षिशापेन यक्ष्मरोगप्रपीडितः
Agni, tormented by the disease of consumption due to the curse of a Brahmarṣi,
शक्रो वृत्रं बलं पाकं नमुचिं जृंभमुद्धृतम्
Indra slew Vṛtra, Bala, Pāka, Namuci, and Jṛmbha.
पातकैश्च परिक्षीणस्तथा लोकांतमाश्रितः
But he was diminished by sins and sought refuge at the ends of the worlds.
