जय रुद्र मखाराते पिनाकिन्प्रमथाधिप
Victory to you, Rudra, destroyer of sacrifices, wielder of the Pināka bow, leader of the Pramathas!
जय भीम मृगव्याध कृत्तिवासः कृपानिधे
Victory to you, terrible one, hunter of beasts, clad in hides, ocean of compassion!
त्वदाज्ञया मरुद्राति फणी वहति भूभरम्
By your command, the wind-god and the serpent bear the weight of the earth.
ज्योतींषि संचरंते खे सर्वं त्वच्छासनात्प्रभो
The luminaries move in the sky, O Lord, all by your command.
विधाय कल्पसे पुष्ट्यै सूते सस्यानि मेदिनी
Having ordained, you foster prosperity; the earth brings forth crops.
अणिमादिमहासिद्धिनिःसाधारणवैभवः
You possess the unique splendor of the great powers, beginning with aṇimā.
विशुक्त्वे विस्मरामस्त्वां स्मरामः संकटेपि च 1.3.2.14.
When freed, we forget you; yet in distress, we remember you.
यदा विधित्सेर्भक्तिं त्वं यदा च प्रावृणोषि ताम्
When you grant devotion, O Lord, and when you withdraw it—
इति स्तुतस्सांजलिबद्धपाणिना पतिः पशूनामथ चक्रपाणिना
Thus praised with hands joined in reverence, the Lord of creatures, bearing the discus, then—
कैलासकूटधवलं वृषेन्द्रमधितस्थिवान्
He mounted the bull, white as the peak of Kailāsa.
जटाजूटवता बालचंद्रचूडेन मौलिना
With matted locks, a crescent moon adorning his crown,
नागकुंडलिभिः फालफलकोद्भासिलोचनैः
With serpent earrings, and eyes shining from his broad forehead,
शूलं कपालं डमरुं सारंगं परशुं धनुः
He bore a trident, a skull, a drum, a deer, an axe, and a bow.
श्वसितोद्धूलिताकारो गजचर्मोत्तरीयवान्
His form was dusted by his breath, and he wore an upper garment of elephant hide.
परिधानीकृतव्याघ्रचर्मा ताभ्यामदर्शि सः
Clad in a tiger skin as his lower garment, he was seen by them.
न किंचिदपि जानानो मुमोह च सरोजभूः
Lotus-born Brahmā, knowing nothing at all, became bewildered.
दृशाभिनंद्य माधवं प्रसन्नया महेश्वरः
With a gracious gaze, Maheśvara looked upon Mādhava with delight.
जगाद चाधिकारितामदाद्युवां समुद्धतौ
He spoke of the authority both of you possessed at the beginning of creation.
परीक्ष्य वैभवं मम प्रबोधवानभूद्धरिः 1.3.2.15.
Having tested my greatness, Hari became awakened.
अशासि पंचवक्त्रता यदोपहासितो ह्यहम्
When I was mocked, you wished for five faces.
तृतीय एष मंतुरप्यहो कथं नु सह्यते
This is the third time you have spoken—alas, how can it be endured?
अयं च केतकच्छदो यदाप कूटसाक्षिताम्
And when this one, with a ketaka blossom as his crest, bore false witness—
शप्त्वैवमेतौ गिरिशः प्रीत्या विष्णुमभाषत
Thus cursing them, Giriśa affectionately addressed Viṣṇu.
ननु त्वमंगान्मे जातस्सात्त्विकोऽसि विशेषतः
Indeed, you are born from my body; you are especially endowed with sattva.
न तवातः परं जातु भक्तिहानिर्भवेन्मयि
Therefore, at no time shall there ever be any loss of devotion towards me from you.
इत्यनुग्रहकृतं त्रिलोचनं भक्तिभाजि निरहंक्रिये हरौ
Thus, out of compassion, the three-eyed one showed favor to the devotee of the egoless Hari.
विना भायैक्यसुलभं भवदीयमनुग्रहम्
Except through fear, your grace is not easily obtained.
अकर्तृकाणि वाक्यानि ऐश्वर्यं ते निरत्ययम्
Your words are not uttered by yourself, and your sovereignty is unassailable.
को विष्णुः कोऽहमेते वा दिक्पाला वासवादयः
Who is Viṣṇu? Who am I? Who are these guardians of the directions, and Indra and the others?
पतिस्त्वं पार्वतीनाथ पशवो वयमप्यमी
You are the Lord, O husband of Pārvatī; we and all these others are but cattle.
