He, intent on defying the world, angry and hungry for many days,
Taking a skull in his hand, he repeatedly said:
Having spoken thus, he raised his hand, placing his index finger upon it.
Then, from that finger, a great stream of blood began to flow.
At that time, the stream welled up and flowed forth together from there.
In Vaikuntha, there immediately appeared a river that purifies the three worlds.
As it is said to destroy fever, so I, Vyasa, declare it.
The lord of the Daityas fought, unrestrained and mocking.
Then, angered, Vasudeva swiftly took up his discus.
At that time, his resolve broken, his faults cut off, and wounded by sores,
That great Daitya, terrified, approached nearby.
Having cut off the thousand arms of the Daitya king in battle,
Where he stood unmoving, Vyasa, there Maheshvara arrived.
Having come together, they engaged in a fierce battle with each other.
Then Krishna readied the Vaishnava weapon, intent on destroying Hara.
At that time, Shambhu too prepared his weapon, eager to take Krishna's life.
Krishna again released the stupefying missile upon Shiva.
He stood on the battlefield, repeatedly yawning for a short while.
Then, overpowered by anger, the Maheshvara fever was created.
It had three eyes, three heads, was short, three-legged, and had a terrifying form.
Urged on by Mahadeva, it attacked Krishna's army.
Struck by the fever, the foremost among them were broken and fled.
Seeing them thus afflicted, yawning and tormented by pain—
Krishna, greatly enraged, created the Vaishnava fever.
A terrible and even more dreadful battle arose between the two.
Having gone throughout all the worlds, they found no peace.
Then, plunging into the Shipra river, they attained supreme peace.
The Vaishnava fever too, arriving there, performed immersion.
From then on, at all times, it instantly became a destroyer of fevers.
Those who immerse themselves in the Shipra with focused mind are freed from ailments.
