तेन पुण्यप्रभावेन सर्वपापं क्षयं गतम्
By the power of that merit, all his sins were destroyed.
हित्वा पैशाचकं देहं ज्योतिस्तल्लिंगमाविशत्
Abandoning the demoniac body, he entered that liṅga as a being of light.
पिशाचमोचनेशेति देवः ख्यातिं ततो गतः
From then on, the god became known as Piśācamocaneśa, the Lord who frees from demons.
यावन्नायाति शिप्रायास्तीर्थे पैशाचमो चने
Until one comes to the tīrtha of the Śiprā, at Piśācamocana,
पिशाचमोचनं देवं पूजयित्वा यथाविधि
Having worshipped the god Piśācamocana according to the proper rites,
पिशाचमोचने व्यास महादानानि कारयेत्
At Piśācamocana, O Vyāsa, one should perform great acts of charity.
पिशाचमोचनकथां पवित्रां पापहारिणीम् 5.1.53.
The sacred tale of releasing from the piśāca, which destroys sin.
नीलगंगा कदा ब्रह्मञ्छिप्राकुंडे समागता
O Brahman, when did the Nīla Gaṅgā come together at the Śiprā lake?
नीलगंगां नरः स्नात्वा संगमेश्वरमर्चयेत्
A man, having bathed in the Nīla Gaṅgā, should worship Saṃgameśvara.
दुःसंगसंभवा दोषा न भवंति कदाचन
The faults arising from bad association never occur.
गता पुनंती त्रील्लोकान्नीलवासा शुचार्दिता
Having gone, she purifies the three worlds, clad in blue, afflicted with purity.
दुष्टाचारापराधेन येनेमां प्रापिता दशाम्
By wicked conduct and offense, she was brought to this state.
तत्सर्वं तिष्ठति मयि सर्वेषामपि देहिनाम्
All that remains in me, as in all embodied beings.
नीलभासा विवर्णा च सर्वधर्मबहिर्मुखा
With a blue hue, discolored, and turned away from all dharma.
मयि त्यक्त्वा पुनंतीह जंतवः सर्वशोऽमलाः
Having abandoned me here, all beings become completely pure.
अस्माकं च महत्कष्टं जातं धातः परं मलम्
For us, O Dhātṛ, great suffering has arisen, the utmost impurity.
न लोके च स्थितिर्मेद्य पापिष्ठायाः सनातनी 5.1.54.
There is no place in the world for the most sinful, impure one.
किं करोमि क्व गच्छामि येन शांतिर्भवेन्मम
What shall I do, where shall I go, by which peace may come to me?
येनाहं पापलिप्तांगी पुनः प्रकृतिमाप्नुयाम्
By what means may I, whose body is smeared with sin, regain my true nature?
महाकालवने रम्ये पुरी ह्येषा ऽमरावती
In the delightful Mahākālavana stands this city, Amarāvatī.
तत्र शिप्रा सरिच्छ्रेष्ठा वर्तते भुवि पावनी
There, on earth, flows the Śiprā, the best of rivers, purifying.
तत्र गच्छ महाभागे सद्यश्चात्म विशुद्धये
Go there, O highly fortunate one, at once for the purification of yourself.
तमभिज्ञाय संप्राप्ता महाकालवनं शुभम्
Recognizing that, she arrived at the auspicious Mahākālavana.
विंध्यस्य चोत्तरे भागे अंजन्याश्रममुत्तमम्
In the northern part of Vindhya is the excellent hermitage of Añjanā.
पतिव्रताभिः सर्वाभिः पतिभिर्ब्रह्मचारिभिः
By all devoted wives and by husbands who are celibate,
सरसीफुल्लकल्हारैर्मत्तालिकुलनादितैः
With lakes blooming with lotuses, resounding with the songs of intoxicated bees,
मनोह्रादकरं पुण्यं पवित्रं पापनाशनम् 5.1.54.
It is charming, meritorious, pure, and destroys sin.
शुक्लवासाऽभवत्सद्यो नष्टपापमला ऽशुभा
She immediately became clad in white garments, her sins and impurities vanished, and she became auspicious.
तत्रैव चाश्रमं चक्रे मनःसंहर्षकारणम्
There itself she established an ashram, a cause of great joy to the mind.
नीलगंगेति वै व्यास तीर्थं किल्विषनाशनम्
O Vyasa, the holy place called Nilaganga is known to destroy sins.
