Hearing these words, the venerable sage Nārada said: 'O Rāma, why do you not now remember Hari, your true self?'
You yourself have previously spoken of the destruction of brahmahatyā; in that sacred place, the great liṅga destroys the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa.
There abides Jaṭeśvara, the greatly fortunate one, bestower of all accomplishments; hearing Nārada’s words and recalling that supreme field—
—he swiftly went, O goddess, to the great Kālavaṇa; from the midst of the liṅga, O goddess, I graciously emerged at that time.
To Jāmadagnya I spoke: 'I grant you your desired boon.'
May my devotion to your lotus feet, O goddess, ever be abundant.
Thus was I addressed by him then, as he was pleased, O Pārvatī.
From this day forth, the god will be renowned by your name.
Those who worship with devotion the supreme god Rāmeśvara, for them, all sins from birth are destroyed that very instant.
He alone is virtuous and worthy of worship, both in this world and the next.
Those who rejoice in the god’s sight and worship likewise—
—even the most terrible sin, the killing of a thousand brāhmaṇas—
—and the rare fruit that is difficult for brāhmaṇas to obtain through sacrifices like Vājapeya—
Those heroes who face death in battle for the sake of cows and brāhmaṇas—
—they have always conquered the worlds, just as Rāma conquered the three worlds.
Thus, O goddess, I have told you the glory that destroys sin.
Śrī Viśvanātha said: By whose mere sight, one does not fall from heaven—
O Pārvatī, Cyavana is the name of the son of the great sage Bhṛgu.
On the beautiful bank of the Vitastā river, for many years indeed—
With the passing of much time, O goddess, he became covered with ants.
To that place, for pleasure, she came to the excellent forest.
He had four thousand women as his consorts.
She, surrounded by her companions and adorned with all ornaments—
Then, out of curiosity, she, confused in mind, used a thorn.
Pierced by her, he became extremely distressed in both eyes.
Then, with his urine and feces blocked, the king suffered greatly.
Who has committed an offense here against the great-souled Bhārgava?
If it is known or unknown, speak of it now without delay.
Then that ruler of the earth, with gentle and harsh words himself—
Seeing her father distressed, Sukanyā then spoke to him:
