त्यमु वो अप्रहणं गृणीषे शवसस्पतिम् । इन्द्रं विश्वासाहं नरं मंहिष्ठं विश्वचर्षणिम्
That unconquered lord of might I praise for you, Indra, the all-powerful man, the greatest, the universal protector.
यं वर्धयन्तीद्गिरः पतिं तुरस्य राधसः । तमिन्न्वस्य रोदसी देवी शुष्मं सपर्यतः
Him whom the hymns magnify, the lord of abundant gifts, him the two divine worlds, the goddesses, honor for his strength.
तद्व उक्थस्य बर्हणेन्द्रायोपस्तृणीषणि । विपो न यस्योतयो वि यद्रोहन्ति सक्षितः
That seat of praise I spread for Indra; like rivers whose waves rush forth, where the dwellers move apart.
अविदद्दक्षं मित्रो नवीयान्पपानो देवेभ्यो वस्यो अचैत् । ससवान्स्तौलाभिर्धौतरीभिरुरुष्या पायुरभवत्सखिभ्यः
Mitra, ever new, discovered skill; drinking, he became the most generous among the gods. With the Taulā and Dhautari hymns, he became a wide protector for his friends.
ऋतस्य पथि वेधा अपायि श्रिये मनांसि देवासो अक्रन् । दधानो नाम महो वचोभिर्वपुर्दृशये वेन्यो व्यावः
On the path of truth, the wise one drank; for glory, the gods made their minds. Bearing the name of greatness, with words they fashioned a form for vision, the shining one, the weaver.
द्युमत्तमं दक्षं धेह्यस्मे सेधा जनानां पूर्वीररातीः । वर्षीयो वयः कृणुहि शचीभिर्धनस्य सातावस्माँ अविड्ढि
Bestow upon us the most radiant skill; drive away the ancient hostilities of men. Make our life longer with your powers; grant us the gaining of wealth—be mindful of us.
इन्द्र तुभ्यमिन्मघवन्नभूम वयं दात्रे हरिवो मा वि वेनः । नकिरापिर्ददृशे मर्त्यत्रा किमङ्ग रध्रचोदनं त्वाहुः
Indra, for you alone, O bountiful one, we have not failed in giving; O wielder of the tawny steeds, do not abandon us. No one else among mortals has been seen as generous; how then could anyone call you reluctant to give?
मा जस्वने वृषभ नो ररीथा मा ते रेवतः सख्ये रिषाम । पूर्वीष्ट इन्द्र निष्षिधो जनेषु जह्यसुष्वीन्प्र वृहापृणतः
Do not, O bull, turn away from us in your thunder; do not let us lose your friendship, O radiant one. Indra, grant us your ancient and new favors among people; drive away those who are hostile, and uplift those who praise you.
उदभ्राणीव स्तनयन्नियर्तीन्द्रो राधांस्यश्व्यानि गव्या । त्वमसि प्रदिवः कारुधाया मा त्वादामान आ दभन्मघोनः
Like thunder rising from the clouds, Indra brings forth wealth of horses and cattle. You are the giver from the heavens, O singer; let none who seeks your gifts, O generous one, be disappointed.
अध्वर्यो वीर प्र महे सुतानामिन्द्राय भर स ह्यस्य राजा । यः पूर्व्याभिरुत नूतनाभिर्गीर्भिर्वावृधे गृणतामृषीणाम्
O sacrificer, hero, bring forth the pressed offerings for Indra, for he is their lord. He who has grown strong through both ancient and new praises, through the songs of the chanting sages.
अस्य मदे पुरु वर्पांसि विद्वानिन्द्रो वृत्राण्यप्रती जघान । तमु प्र होषि मधुमन्तमस्मै सोमं वीराय शिप्रिणे पिबध्यै
Knowing the many forms through his exhilaration, Indra has slain the foes without resistance. Offer to him the honeyed Soma, for the hero with the tuft, so that he may drink.
पाता सुतमिन्द्रो अस्तु सोमं हन्ता वृत्रं वज्रेण मन्दसानः । गन्ता यज्ञं परावतश्चिदच्छा वसुर्धीनामविता कारुधायाः
Let Indra drink the pressed Soma, let him slay the foe with his thunderbolt, rejoicing. Let him come to the sacrifice, even from afar, as the benefactor, the protector of thoughts, the guardian of the singer.
इदं त्यत्पात्रमिन्द्रपानमिन्द्रस्य प्रियममृतमपायि । मत्सद्यथा सौमनसाय देवं व्यस्मद्द्वेषो युयवद्व्यंहः
This vessel is for Indra's drinking, the beloved, immortal drink of Indra has been consumed. May it bring joy to the god, and may it drive away from us hatred and enmity.
एना मन्दानो जहि शूर शत्रूञ्जामिमजामिं मघवन्नमित्रान् । अभिषेणाँ अभ्यादेदिशानान्पराच इन्द्र प्र मृणा जही च
Rejoicing in this, strike down, O hero, your enemies; destroy the hostile, O bountiful one, the unfriendly. With your force, attack those who oppose, O Indra, and utterly defeat and slay them.
आसु ष्मा णो मघवन्निन्द्र पृत्स्वस्मभ्यं महि वरिवः सुगं कः । अपां तोकस्य तनयस्य जेष इन्द्र सूरीन्कृणुहि स्मा नो अर्धम्
O bountiful Indra, fight for us; grant us great and easy passage. Defeat the enemies of our water, offspring, and descendants; make us lords, O Indra, and secure our share.
आ त्वा हरयो वृषणो युजाना वृषरथासो वृषरश्मयोऽत्याः । अस्मत्राञ्चो वृषणो वज्रवाहो वृष्णे मदाय सुयुजो वहन्तु
Your stallions, harnessed and mighty, your chariots with strong reins, are ready. Let them bring you, O thunder-bearer, for our delight, well-yoked, to us who praise you.
आ ते वृषन्वृषणो द्रोणमस्थुर्घृतप्रुषो नोर्मयो मदन्तः । इन्द्र प्र तुभ्यं वृषभिः सुतानां वृष्णे भरन्ति वृषभाय सोमम्
Your mighty ones have come to your vessel, O bull, delighting in the butter and honey. Indra, for you, the bulls bring the pressed Soma, for the mighty one, to drink.
वृषासि दिवो वृषभः पृथिव्या वृषा सिन्धूनां वृषभ स्तियानाम् । वृष्णे त इन्दुर्वृषभ पीपाय स्वादू रसो मधुपेयो वराय
You are the bull of heaven, the bull of earth, the bull of rivers, the bull of women. For the mighty one, the Soma has swelled, the sweet juice, fit for the best, for drinking.
अयं देवः सहसा जायमान इन्द्रेण युजा पणिमस्तभायत् । अयं स्वस्य पितुरायुधानीन्दुरमुष्णादशिवस्य मायाः
This god, born in strength, with Indra as his ally, has overcome the demon. This one has taken up the weapons of his own father; the Soma has burned away the magic of the evil one.
अयमकृणोदुषसः सुपत्नीरयं सूर्ये अदधाज्ज्योतिरन्तः । अयं त्रिधातु दिवि रोचनेषु त्रितेषु विन्ददमृतं निगूळ्हम्
This one has made the dawns good wives; this one has placed light within the sun. This one, in the three regions of heaven, in the shining places, has found the hidden nectar.
अयं द्यावापृथिवी वि ष्कभायदयं रथमयुनक्सप्तरश्मिम् । अयं गोषु शच्या पक्वमन्तः सोमो दाधार दशयन्त्रमुत्सम्
This one has supported heaven and earth; this one has yoked the seven-rayed chariot. This one, by skill, has placed the ripe Soma among the cows, and established the tenfold fountain.
य आनयत्परावतः सुनीती तुर्वशं यदुम् । इन्द्रः स नो युवा सखा
He who led Turvasha and Yadu from afar with wise guidance—may Indra, our youthful friend, be with us.
अविप्रे चिद्वयो दधदनाशुना चिदर्वता । इन्द्रो जेता हितं धनम्
Even for the unskilled, he provides sustenance; even for the swift horse, Indra is the conqueror, granting the desired wealth.
महीरस्य प्रणीतयः पूर्वीरुत प्रशस्तयः । नास्य क्षीयन्त ऊतयः
Great are his guidance and many are his blessings; his aids never diminish.
सखायो ब्रह्मवाहसेऽर्चत प्र च गायत । स हि नः प्रमतिर्मही
Friends, sing forth to the bearer of prayer, and raise your voices; for he is our great support.
त्वमेकस्य वृत्रहन्नविता द्वयोरसि । उतेदृशे यथा वयम्
You alone, O slayer of Vṛtra, are the helper of one and of two; may we be such as you are.
नयसीद्वति द्विषः कृणोष्युक्थशंसिनः । नृभिः सुवीर उच्यसे
You lead the hostile away, you bring down those who speak against the hymn; among men you are called mighty in heroes.
ब्रह्माणं ब्रह्मवाहसं गीर्भिः सखायमृग्मियम् । गां न दोहसे हुवे
With words I call the friend, the singer, the bearer of prayer, as one calls a cow to milk.
यस्य विश्वानि हस्तयोरूचुर्वसूनि नि द्विता । वीरस्य पृतनाषहः
In whose hands all treasures have been placed without division—the hero who conquers in battle.
वि दृळ्हानि चिदद्रिवो जनानां शचीपते । वृह माया अनानत
Even the firm strongholds of peoples, O lord of might, you shatter, O stone-wielder; bring down the unbending tricks.
