एवा महो असुर वक्षथाय वम्रकः पड्भिरुप सर्पदिन्द्रम् । स इयानः करति स्वस्तिमस्मा इषमूर्जं सुक्षितिं विश्वमाभाः
Thus, O mighty Asura, for greatness, the tender one approaches Indra with his feet; advancing, he brings us well-being, strength, nourishment, and all prosperity.
इन्द्र दृह्य मघवन्त्वावदिद्भुज इह स्तुतः सुतपा बोधि नो वृधे । देवेभिर्नः सविता प्रावतु श्रुतमा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Indra, make firm our wealth; here, praised, drink the Soma for our increase. May Savitar, together with the gods, protect us; we choose Aditi, who grants all surpassing blessings.
भराय सु भरत भागमृत्वियं प्र वायवे शुचिपे क्रन्ददिष्टये । गौरस्य यः पयसः पीतिमानश आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Bring the portion for the bearer, offer it for the priest; let it go to Vayu, pure, for the cry of worship. He who has tasted the milk of the cow, we choose Aditi, who grants all surpassing blessings.
आ नो देवः सविता साविषद्वय ऋजूयते यजमानाय सुन्वते । यथा देवान्प्रतिभूषेम पाकवदा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May the god Savitar inspire us, guiding the sacrificer who presses the soma along the straight path. As we adorn the gods like ripe fruit, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्रो अस्मे सुमना अस्तु विश्वहा राजा सोमः सुवितस्याध्येतु नः । यथायथा मित्रधितानि संदधुरा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May Indra be gracious to us, the king Soma grant us prosperity. As Mitra and Dhiti unite their powers, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्र उक्थेन शवसा परुर्दधे बृहस्पते प्रतरीतास्यायुषः । यज्ञो मनुः प्रमतिर्नः पिता हि कमा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Indra, with praise and might, has spread protection; Brihaspati is the prolonger of life. Sacrifice, Manu, and wise counsel—our fathers—indeed, we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
इन्द्रस्य नु सुकृतं दैव्यं सहोऽग्निर्गृहे जरिता मेधिरः कविः । यज्ञश्च भूद्विदथे चारुरन्तम आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
The divine strength of Indra's good deeds, Agni in the house, the wise poet, and sacrifice, beautiful in the assembly, all these—thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
न वो गुहा चकृम भूरि दुष्कृतं नाविष्ट्यं वसवो देवहेळनम् । माकिर्नो देवा अनृतस्य वर्पस आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
We have not done much evil in secret, nor committed acts hateful to the gods, O Vasus. Let not the gods reject us for falsehood; thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
अपामीवां सविता साविषन्न्यग्वरीय इदप सेधन्त्वद्रयः । ग्रावा यत्र मधुषुदुच्यते बृहदा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May Savitar drive away disease and misfortune; let the waters repel what is harmful. Where the stone calls forth sweet soma, there we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
ऊर्ध्वो ग्रावा वसवोऽस्तु सोतरि विश्वा द्वेषांसि सनुतर्युयोत । स नो देवः सविता पायुरीड्य आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Let the stone rise upright, O Vasus, in the pressing; may it drive away all hatred and enmity. May Savitar, the god, be our praised guardian; thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
ऊर्जं गावो यवसे पीवो अत्तन ऋतस्य याः सदने कोशे अङ्ग्ध्वे । तनूरेव तन्वो अस्तु भेषजमा सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
Let the cows drink rich grass and nourishment, those who dwell in the abode and vessel of truth. Let healing be for our bodies as for the body itself; thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
क्रतुप्रावा जरिता शश्वतामव इन्द्र इद्भद्रा प्रमतिः सुतावताम् । पूर्णमूधर्दिव्यं यस्य सिक्तय आ सर्वतातिमदितिं वृणीमहे
May the singer be endowed with enduring strength; may Indra's favor and wise counsel be for those who press soma. Whose heavenly vessel is full of libations, thus we choose the all-surpassing Aditi.
चित्रस्ते भानुः क्रतुप्रा अभिष्टिः सन्ति स्पृधो जरणिप्रा अधृष्टाः । रजिष्ठया रज्या पश्व आ गोस्तूतूर्षति पर्यग्रं दुवस्युः
Your brilliance is splendid, your strength brings fulfillment; there are helpers, swift and unassailable. With the best chariot, the praise of cattle, the singer circles the offering, seeking favor.
उद्बुध्यध्वं समनसः सखायः समग्निमिन्ध्वं बहवः सनीळाः । दधिक्रामग्निमुषसं च देवीमिन्द्रावतोऽवसे नि ह्वये वः
Awaken, friends, with one mind; kindle the fire, many gathered together. I call for help upon Dadhikrā, Agni, Ushas the goddess, and Indra.
मन्द्रा कृणुध्वं धिय आ तनुध्वं नावमरित्रपरणीं कृणुध्वम् । इष्कृणुध्वमायुधारं कृणुध्वं प्राञ्चं यज्ञं प्र णयता सखायः
Make your thoughts pleasant, extend them; prepare the boat that crosses without harm. Prepare the channel, make ready the implements; friends, lead the sacrifice forward.
युनक्त सीरा वि युगा तनुध्वं कृते योनौ वपतेह बीजम् । गिरा च श्रुष्टिः सभरा असन्नो नेदीय इत्सृण्यः पक्वमेयात्
Yoke the ploughs, stretch out the yokes; in the prepared furrow sow the seed. With voice and effort, let the workers be ready; let the nearest field yield ripe produce.
सीरा युञ्जन्ति कवयो युगा वि तन्वते पृथक् । धीरा देवेषु सुम्नया
The poets yoke the ploughs, stretch out the yokes separately; the wise, with favor, toward the gods.
निराहावान्कृणोतन सं वरत्रा दधातन । सिञ्चामहा अवतमुद्रिणं वयं सुषेकमनुपक्षितम्
Make the furrow, lay the yoke together; let us pour water into the channel, a well-watered, unbroken stream.
इष्कृताहावमवतं सुवरत्रं सुषेचनम् । उद्रिणं सिञ्चे अक्षितम्
Prepare the channel, water it well, make it fertile; pour into the furrow an unbroken stream.
प्रीणीताश्वान्हितं जयाथ स्वस्तिवाहं रथमित्कृणुध्वम् । द्रोणाहावमवतमश्मचक्रमंसत्रकोशं सिञ्चता नृपाणम्
Feed the horses, win the prize; make the chariot that brings good fortune. Prepare the furrow, the stone wheel, fill the vessel, pour for the leaders.
व्रजं कृणुध्वं स हि वो नृपाणो वर्म सीव्यध्वं बहुला पृथूनि । पुरः कृणुध्वमायसीरधृष्टा मा वः सुस्रोच्चमसो दृंहता तम्
Make the enclosure, for it is for your leaders; sew the armor, broad and thick. Make the fort of iron, unassailable; let not your well-formed vessel be broken by the enemy.
आ वो धियं यज्ञियां वर्त ऊतये देवा देवीं यजतां यज्ञियामिह । सा नो दुहीयद्यवसेव गत्वी सहस्रधारा पयसा मही गौः
To you, O gods, we turn our sacred thought for help; may the divine, worshipful goddess be worshipped here. May she, like a cow with a thousand streams of milk, yield us abundance for our sustenance.
आ तू षिञ्च हरिमीं द्रोरुपस्थे वाशीभिस्तक्षताश्मन्मयीभिः । परि ष्वजध्वं दश कक्ष्याभिरुभे धुरौ प्रति वह्निं युनक्त
Pour the golden-hued offering into the vessel; shape it with axes, with tools of stone. Embrace it with ten bands; yoke both yokes, and set the fire in its place.
उभे धुरौ वह्निरापिब्दमानोऽन्तर्योनेव चरति द्विजानिः । वनस्पतिं वन आस्थापयध्वं नि षू दधिध्वमखनन्त उत्सम्
The fire, drinking from both yokes, moves within as a double-born being, as if in the womb. Set the wooden post in the wood; place it down, and let them hollow out the well.
कपृन्नरः कपृथमुद्दधातन चोदयत खुदत वाजसातये । निष्टिग्र्यः पुत्रमा च्यावयोतय इन्द्रं सबाध इह सोमपीतये
O men, raise the well-known, the renowned one; urge on, dig for the prize of strength. Let the one with the staff set the child in motion; call Indra here to drink Soma with the assembly.
प्र ते रथं मिथूकृतमिन्द्रोऽवतु धृष्णुया । अस्मिन्नाजौ पुरुहूत श्रवाय्ये धनभक्षेषु नोऽव
May Indra guard your well-matched chariot with his might. In this battle, O much-invoked one, for fame and for the winning of wealth, protect us.
उत्स्म वातो वहति वासोऽस्या अधिरथं यदजयत्सहस्रम् । रथीरभून्मुद्गलानी गविष्टौ भरे कृतं व्यचेदिन्द्रसेना
The wind blows forth, his garment is upon the chariot, when he won a thousand. Mudgalānī became a charioteer in the contest for cattle; Indra's host scattered the enemy in battle.
अन्तर्यच्छ जिघांसतो वज्रमिन्द्राभिदासतः । दासस्य वा मघवन्नार्यस्य वा सनुतर्यवया वधम्
Hold back the weapon of the one who seeks to harm, O Indra, against the assailant. Whether of the Dāsa or the Arya, O bountiful one, let the weapon of the enemy be destroyed.
उद्नो ह्रदमपिबज्जर्हृषाणः कूटं स्म तृंहदभिमातिमेति । प्र मुष्कभारः श्रव इच्छमानोऽजिरं बाहू अभरत्सिषासन्
He drank the water of the deep pool, roaring; he broke the stronghold, overcoming the foe. Desiring fame, he bore the heavy load with his swift arms, striving for victory.
न्यक्रन्दयन्नुपयन्त एनममेहयन्वृषभं मध्य आजेः । तेन सूभर्वं शतवत्सहस्रं गवां मुद्गलः प्रधने जिगाय
They came, bellowing, surrounding him, urinating like a bull in the midst of the herd. With that strength, Mudgala won in battle a hundred, a thousand cattle in the contest.
